Spirits vs Barclays ..... Spirts

Sprits vs. Barclays 10/12/12
It was our last game of the year, and the final game for Jim Howlett ( who may be returning to Singapore but that removes the drama ),  in a shocking move the entire team was at the ground a massive 10 minutes before the game was scheduled to start. Now all we needed was our opposition to arrive.
Now all we needed was our opposition to arrive.
At least we can watch the Aussies thrash the Kiwis in the test while we wait
Ooopps, it seems we have no opposition today, so sorry for the mix up
Spirits vs. Spirits 2 a side tournament 10/12/12
It was decided that we had come to play, and anyway it was going to rain around 4 so we may as well get something in. Skipper Jim declared the first 2 over 2 a side tournament, with the teams to be drawn at random, from a strong player and one social player ( I will leave it to your imagination to figure out who is who ).
The first round clashes were
Rajesh ( Spirits, SRC, Misfits ) and Kalpesh ( Sprits, SCC ) vs. Dr Bryan Deane( Spirits, ANZA ) and Jason ( Spirits )
An astonishing bowling effort from Rajesh and Kalpesh saw them chasing a total of – 17 for victory ( -5 for every wicket lost ), which they comfortably got with a grand total of 1
Akash ( Spirits ) and John ( Spirits ) vs. Dave “Rev” Goodwin ( ANZA ) and  Madhu ( Spirits )
A closer contest with the Spirits team of Akash and John winning  by a few runs, and both teams getting into double figures
Tony Edmonstone ( ANZA ) and Paul ( Spirits, ANZA ) vs. Jim Howlett ( ANZA ) and Jim Howlett ( Spirits ), yes Jim is so good he gets to play with himself
Unfortunately the power of Jim was not to prevail, as even he could not defeat two to his one, and to make matters worse, a season ending injury to Dr Bryan Deane as he stopped a drive from Tony with his foot. See you on the pitch in 2012 Bryan.
So it was decided that the three winners and the not worst loser would go on, which lead to :
Rajesh and Kalepsh vs. Dave and Madhu
Rajesh was in fine form, after only 1 in the previous innings he was looking for boundaries, and Kalpesh was looking for singles.  The total was too much Dave and Madhu and Rajesh and Kalpesh advance to the final
Akash and John vs. Paul and Tony
Some lusty swing by Paul and some actual hitting off the ball by Tony saw the Spirits boys chasing a respectable total, but even with a spectacular catch by Jim, Akash and John still made the target, which lead to

THE GRAND FINAL
Akash and John vs. Rajesh and Kalpesh
Akash and John were first to bat, and through methodical batting and semi-lusty hitting, were able  to set a reasonable total ( as we did not have a scorebook it was around 23 ), with Rajesh in fine form, he and Kalpesh were on track to an easy victory. Needing 2 of the last 2 balls, and with plenty of gaps in the field, Rajesh thought to end the game early by going over the top  ….. and straight down Jim’s throat for an easy catch. Kalpesh was unable to hit a six of the last ball to secure a draw, leaving the eventual winners as Akash and Kalpesh
For the first time in what seems like a couple of months, it did not rain, so it was a pity we did not get a proper game, but a good time was had by all ( except Bryan’s foot )
