Match Report Sun 22nd May at CSC vs "Crap"

Yet another scorcher at CSC, Vishal taking the reigns as skipper for the day promptly lost the toss and we found ourselves fielding. Fortunately, the Shankar-managed "CRAP" wanted to limit the game to 25 overs. Amar (4/0/32/1) and Daniel (3/1/10/1) opened the bowling and each took an early wicket. With the intention of sharing the bowling duties around Ravi (3/0/9/1) and Ganesh (4/0/24/1) came on thereafter and each snagged one more. From there on in we saw perhaps the greatest bowling display from a bevy of Spirits part-time bowlers that we have ever seen. Yiqi, (2/0/12/2) Shubham (3/0/10/0), Kalpesh (1/0/12/0), Logu (3/0/14/2) and Paul (2/0/14/2) all bowled one over each of the next five overs and managed to snag 3 wickets between them. Logu, Yiqi and Paul carried on to take an additional wicket each and Spirits had CRAP on the ropes.
Then Shankar came out to bat at No.11.
What can I say, the opposition saved the best CRAP for last. Vishal bought Ganesh and Amar back into the attack for the final two overs and CRAP let loose. There was a total of 4 dropped catches in the last 2 overs and CRAP were able to reach a respectable total of 167 of their 25 overs.
Spirits started off their batting solidly with the attacking Sarvana (27) who was unlucky to be called run out and the studious Bryan (36 ret. possibly hurt?). Bryan called for a runner midway through his innings and Paul kindly obliged after about 2 more overs of Bryan limping through for singles. Amar reminded Bryan that to need a runner you actually have to not be able to run but CRAP didn't seem to mind!
The rest of the top order were slightly less inspiring with Kalpesh (7), Shubham (5) and Daniel (4) all going cheaply. Amar (17 not out) batted well, smashing a couple of boundaries (which was good because there was no bloody way he was going to run 2) as did Ganesh (18) who took a top edge to the face and now has beautifully tattooed seam marks across his chin that he can show off to all the girls. Vishal (0) was the victim of some confusion in calling between himself and Amar and was unfortunately run out. Finally Ravi (24 not out) came on and finished off the innings in style, Spirits cantering home with 2 overs to spare.
Result: Spirits won by 4 wickets
Man of the Match: A very tough decision as both the wickets and the runs were spread about amongst the whole team. My pick is Bryan Deane who fielded all day without a bowl and without complaint and then proceeded to be the only player on the Spirits side to retire not out. Well done.
Wooden Spoon: - Paul may deserve this for his howler of a dropped catch off Amar however he redeemed himself by running half of Bryan's runs for him - the wooden spoon therefore falls to the skipper for foolishly leaving me to pack the kit away whilst forgetting that he had asked me to write the match report.
